Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun Episode 2 Review – “Say Hello To The New Heroine”
Sakura Chiya became Nozaki’s new manga assistant, doing the beta for his work. She has a visible crush on him, but he’s too dense to notice.
Two new characters are introduced in the form of Mikoshiba Mikoto and Seo Yuzuki. Mikoshiba (also called “Mikorin”) has a weird gimmick – he’s smooth with his pick up lines but then gets embarrassed as soon as he says them. He says he doesn’t like questions but then gets antsy when no one asks him questions. He sucks at drawing but marvelous at adding roses and flowers to the manga.
As Mikoshiba is already in the manga (he’s the heroine) Nozaki needs to add a new character. Sakura mentions her friend Seo Yuzuki as a possibility. Yuzuki’s gimmick is that she has no tact and is extremely rude, but she doesn’t do it on purpose. But it’s all good because she has the operatic voice of an angel.
The jokes just don’t hit for me. They mostly fall flat, even with the exaggerated reactions from the characters. Or maybe even more because of the exaggerations. Like I said last episode, it’s mostly due to my sense of humour.
I can fully see someone else enjoying this series completely. Just not me. I’ll give it one more try with Episode 3.
